What's on your workbench?

Hey Tony !!! Nice setup. Yer garage is bigger than
my house!!

I DO have a free standing drill press and whole bunch of
spray paint cans. (On the Mrs. side of the garage; she
reminds me from time to time)

See ya real soon, can't wait to take ya fishin' .
I figure we better start kinda small so ya don't injure
yourself. Here's what I usually start with for tourists.

Green runners- they fight like the dickens--
given their size.

Nice ones Tony. Is that a build it yourself blasting cabinet kit or did you get it as a unit? I know Steve, you picked yours up for a buck.

Harbor Freight....it was on sale not long ago for $100 off the normal price!!

I have only one old vise, much smaller than what I see in these pictures, a grinding wheel made out of a motor from an old HVAC unit circa 1964, the bench itself is made of old scrap wood and weighs more than my MGB, an old kitchen cabinet is nailed on the wall above one end, and an old book shelf with an old florescent lamp attached to it is nailed to the wall above the rest......hey! how many times have I typed "o-l-d"?

I waited 20 years to own a "real" vise. There is nothing nicer to work with than a quality US-made vise.

If you look back at my workbench photo, you will see a Wilton on the right and the cheap Chinese garbage it replaced on the left. The difference in rigidity and precision is staggering! Plus you don't have to worry about the vise breaking in two and then breaking your foot.

On a related note, beware when buying a new vise. Many companies which advertise as US-made actually offer two lines. This includes Wilton. Their square vises are Chinese and are garbage like the rest. The round ones are US-made and will literally last forever. Your great grandchildren will still be using it.

I wish I had my grandfather's vice. Millwright.

TONY!!! I just noticed ya have a Benz instrument pod up there beside the TV! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Are Record vises still made in England?
the one I looked at in a store recently was make in the UK.
Now all I need is a more permanent workbench. For some odd reason, my wife doesn't want me to bolt a nice big high quality vise to the kitchen table. totally unreasonable!

"It's to hold bagels Honey, let me go to the garage and get a hacksaw and we can have breakfast. Love ya'"

You guys have altogether too many vices!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

In my first pic, I have an old wilton vise silimar to this pic. The one on the right is a cheap chinese one. Both were recently given to me and I will probably use the Wilton as my main vice.
