What's my car worth?

Approximately, what is my 1966 TR4A worth. Red w/ black interior, paint is good, interior a little tired.

Strong engine. Overdrive. Chrome wire wheels. Many replaced parts, really a good driver car. Solid frame. Reinforced differential mounts. Nothing modified.

Could include the surrey top kit I purchased and have not installed. Could also install it.

What would be a good asking price for a vehicle like this?

Thinking about selling it. I think a TR3 is more of what I want, or an Austin Healey 100-6.

About 2/3rds of a TR3 and 1/3 of the 100/6 in similar conditions.

Going to be real hard for anyone to put a $$$ figure on it from a description and pictures aren't much help either.

IMO TR4s & 4As are among the better values out there -- a very roadable, enjoyable car that isn't commanding the premium that nice 3s and Big Healeys are seeing. That (if true) is good news for buyers who like the 4s, possibly not such good news for 4 owners who want something else.

Sounds like I am sunk! Typical story.

Oh well, no biggie.

Should I post pictures and description to get an estimate?

Hi There rlich8,

Ok guys, got some pics.

Just a few quick ones. Frame and underside pictures are at home, also have pictures of the differential reinforcement if I can somehow figure out how to get them off of the memory card I no longer have the phone/camera for.

I've worked pretty hard on this car the past 7 months. Completely rebuilt the front suspension. Various new hydralic parts. Rebuilt distributor. Rebuilt carbs. Correctly wired up the overdrive. New tires. New fuse box. Euro tail lights and turn signals. Bought tool kit. Bought surrey top. New u-joints. New used half shafts. Differential reinforced. New shocks in front. Re-cored radiator. New water pump. New belt. Adjusted regulator. Rebuilt starter.

Lots of work done. It's a great driver and could be the "perfect" driver with some work to the interior. Horn needs to be fixed. Other than that all electricals work great. No radio. There was some reinforcements done to the frame in the front before my ownership but the frame is *solid*.

I have no idea what this car is worth. Definitely not what I've got in it, but I'm thankful I am able to treat myself to such fun.

Let me know your thoughts, I will not be insulted. I want to ask what the car is worth, more so than try and pass along my expense to someone else. I can't stand playing the price game. I don't want to lose an exorbitant amount of money, but if someone wants to love the car, I'm all for that.

It's a great, solid specimen.

Looks pretty nice to me. Don't know about prices, but I would think $12,000 minimum, $16,000 more likely, especially with the overdrive and surrey top.

Might want to look for a trade for a 3 in a similar state with some cash added.

Nice looking car, though.

I paid about $14,000 for it, which is half way in between your guess.

And I would be fine with getting $14-16 for it due to the fact that a lot of the stuff I did to the car should be "expected" to be in good shape - if that makes sense.

Same story as always, it's worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it.
FWIW, NADA lists "average retail" as $17,100, plus $800 for the surrey top.

Those spark plug wires are ... interesting

Keep the 4, since you have the E as well, that will give you two different looks and drives. The top goes up a lot quicker on the 4 than a 3.

I opted for the push in cap with the brass contacts. Those caps last 50,000 miles.

As for the wires, i decided to make some wire separators out o some zip ties. Otherwise it's like spaghetti.

Yeah, I only ran my last side-entry cap for 80,000 miles or so. Thought it was causing a problem, but it turned out to be mostly the coil. Found out that one of the wires from 1984 was on it's way out, too.

:p 80,000 is too much, I'd rather stick with the 50.

Very nice looking TR4. I fully agree with Randall.

Having OD and a surrey top will add to selling price.

I am partial to side curtains and would recommend you look at and drive a 3. They are unique and very enjoyable cars to drive and enjoy.

It is very nice looking - can't remember if you picked up an original surrey or one of the Microplas ones that have been selling for a while. If you can easily get it on the car I think it will definitely add more than $800 to the car. Nicely prepped surreys can get closer to $20K I think.

I'm betting its just an optical illusion, but that positive battery terminal looks darn close to the battery hold down bracket...

No idea what it's worth but it looks very nice.

I picked up a Revington TR replica of the original. I have compared it to a friend of mine's original one and it is basically indistinguishable.

It's just not installed, that's the problem. I can't seem to nail down some time and get the thing on the car.

One of the guys in our club bought one a couple years ago, looks a lot like your car (nice!), and I think he paid around 22K. Don't know his mileage, etc.
