I hear that one can swap in a 5-speed, 65 sprite, what trans should I look for and what are the particulars??? Fabricating drive shaft, engine to trans mounting, clutch setup, rear trans mount, shifter??? So I don't have to learn this all the hard way...what works out the best...Mick
 
Datsun 210 (not B210) rear wheel drive 5 speed tranny cirrca 1979-1982.
Rivergate or Morriservice has the adaptor plates.
You use your original driveshaft but with the Datsub d/shaft front yoke. Datsun clutch disc, Sprite pressure plate, Nissan slave.
Bill at Rivergate is a great guy, so is Paul from Morris Service <Pasgeirsson@worldnet.att.net>
Both kits are good, Paul's is designed a bit better and uses the complet Datsun clutch assembly and has a better starter layout.
I am using a Rivergate kit myself, Paul's kit came out later.
 
I helped my dad last winter put the datsun 5 speed into his bugeye. It was pretty easy to do. We had a 2 ton engine life that helped. We also did an engine swap. We used rivergate and the tranny was kinda tricky to get in but it was worth it. I think anyone with any kind of talent can put the 5 speed in.

I'm using the rivergate kit myself, and I found that installation was virtually trouble free. The Morrisservice kit requires maodification of the flywheel, but in turn you will be able to use the stock datsun clutch/pressure plate. My car lost some character in the conversion, but it plays well on the interstate now and my wife can drive it without burning the clutch at psuedo-stops.
 
I am attempting to change over a 71 midget. I've got a rivergate and a morriservice adapter plate and a datsun 5 speed that I have bought. I'm going with the Morris because it uses all 210 stuff(which I already have). Both kits are very expensive if you look what's in them. I am attempting to make the rest myself. I have already made up conversion yoke for the drive shaft. I am currently working on the flywheel conversion so the 210 pressure plate will fit. I just don't have the $$$. Plus I am trying to make jigs etc. so It will be easier (and cheaper) the next one I do. I put a higher gear in the Diff. as well so we will see how it comes out in the end. Hopefully not too high geared when finished.
