What does a rebuilt TR6 engine/tranny run these days($$$)??? I looked around and couldn't find any for sale
 
Quantum Mechanics (John Esposito) is listing one right now on his website for $2350 + shipping ($100). TR6 4-speed with J-type overdrive.

Just an example.

I call john esposito and he told me 6 hours of labor plus parts about 700, non overdrive and you send your transmission in.
 
But think of all the fun you'll have for your $6,000 - $10,000 investment! It just goes to show how expensive restorations are these days, not that it was ever cheap.
 
Thanks for the info....but I am not needing one rebuilt...I am selling one(possibly) and tryin to figure a fair price.
 
I think you should call Ted at TSI. I have my motor with him for a rebuild at the present time...It's a TR3 and we are putting 87mm, cam (290) and a TR4 Head (Oversize valves, port and polish).. He's called me all along to be sure we have everything correct.. in all I think he is great to work with and will produce an excellent engine for me... Let him know what your application is for and I think he will deliver. Before I hired him I put together a spread sheet with the prices I could find on the internet and he beat them all with a quote up front.. If you would like a copy of the spread sheet send me a PM and I'll be glad to share it...
 
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif OPPS! If you have any mechanical skills (and maybe funds are an issue too) these motors are not that sophisticated. I've done a TR3 motor which now has 12k + on it and recently a TR250 that I modified too with about 3k. No problems. My mechanical training background is only a elective semester of lawn mower school back in 1972. Get ahold of a Hains manual and follow the step by step procedures and you'll have fun too. A local machine shop did all the machining and also I asked them to double check my measurements on internal parts. They were very helpful. Price shop for the work too and ask local hot rod clubs etc. for references. The machine shop I took my TR3 motor to back in 1980 did a great job and now I was told not to take my lawn mower there. Where I took the 250 motor to in 2004 was not where I was told not to take it in 1980. Good luck!
 
Yes it is...BUT the car has disappeared.....so it's still up in the air....Lucky I never gave him any cash yet. I just wanted an idea of how much I'd expect to get for the motor/trans. I did see a bill for rebuilding both the motor and the tranny about 100 miles ago.
 
Hopefully you can get this sorted out. I am sure no one, including me, wants this car to just disappear and at the same time with the ownership in question there could be consequenses for everyone including those purchasing the parts.

And it does sound like someone once cared very much for that car.

So many of these cars are registered on different databases. I wonder if there is some way to search through them, if not there should be. I have long been somewhat uncomfortable with the thought that blank tags can be purchased and the numbers can be easily changed. Of course I am sure these things have never occured to anyone else.

I guess what I have been trying to say is this, if we owners do not look out for each other who will. We did when the 'scammer' was cheating people with the fake sale ad recently. Seems to me that however well intentioned or inocently it happens this could be a variation of that same thing.

I don't know about you or the rest of the folks on this forum, but I would not be very happy if my car was towed or stolen and someone 'found' it and did not at least make an effort to find me.
