Whats in a Seat

Hey Guys,

Slowly getting my BGT on the road and ready for my daughter to run the wheels off this summer. couldn't have done it without help from the forum. I've got a 77B convertible that I think I'll get to drive when I get it on the road, that is if my other daughter doesn't decide she likes it better than her car. I need some seat rails for the 77 and a new top to start with. do the tops usually come with the metal piece that clips to the windshield or not? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

No. not usually. You have to reuse the old one. It unscrews off of the frame, you carefully remove the rubber gasket, drill the rivets out of the aluminium channel that held the gasket, remove the screws and hardware from the ends, and the top will peel off of the header. Then you should shake all of the old rivets out of the hollow header form one of the holes in the end. otherwise it will sound like a mirraca every time you hit a bump or put the top up or down. Installing the new top is just the reverse. How far you wrap the fabric around the header determines how tight the top is streched when in place, so try to test it and get it where you want it before you install all the rivets and trim the new top.

Hi lectricman87

All of the parts you need can be ordered through Moss or ProperMG.

A suggestion on the top,..both companies sell "Coventry Hoods",..original vinyl, already fitted to a header with seal,...a real snap to put on, and they fit like a dream.
I originally fitted a canvas top myself,..it was a pain in the butt,..I eventually got it fitted,..then ended up not liking the canvas as it showed every speck of dirt and dust.

None of the tops come with windshield clamps,..use te old ones, or buy new,..they're pretty cheap.

Good luck with your car!

Mine gets sprung from it's 8 month sentence in the bodyshop in just a few weeks. I can't wait!
