The HVLS Fan Company started ten years ago and made a really nice, really large overhead fan for moving air in a large room. Their customers kept referring to them as a big ass fan so they changed their name.

The only way I could get a censored word in for a great product. You should see them work!
 
We have a few of them installed on some of the dairies here locally. They work, but we've found for cooling cows on dairies lots of smaller fans are more effective. They used to have "Ref" Perry as a pitchman.

Rathter effective. how often would sombody walk in somewhere and make the exact comment "Now that's a big-a$$ fan!" to which the company rep would say "Why yes, yes it is"
I guess if everybody else is gonna call it that anyway, you might as well capitalize on it.
 
Coke plant in Tampa has one that is HUGE!! I'm not kiding there like Super stallion helicopter blades doesn't move very fast but it moves a ton of air.
