What's for dinner? And my new toy!

Well, we'll see what she finds (or doesn't) tomorrow afternoon...

...something I learned early on in our marriage was that when I demonstrated that I was ineffective at something, I never had to do it again...Its easier for Jerri to do it herself than to teach me...thus, I don't paint, cook, wash dishes or do laundry (painted the kitchen cabinet doors in our 1st apartment red - not allowed to ever paint again; set a fire in the kitchen because I wanted the skillet real hot when I tossed the balogna into it - not allowed in kitchen or to eat bologna; filled the dishwasher with dishes & tossed in laundry soap because I couldn't find any of the little dishwasher tablets & flooded kitchen - yep, no dishes; didn't separate whites from colors - you guessed it!!) Did all that within first few months of marriage & haven't been allowed to try again for 37 years even though I've volunteered to do so.....hehehehe

Early on, Jerri worked out a plan she's comfortable with: she does inside stuff & I do outside stuff! I can live with that!

Love the grille Kenny, we gave up propane about 3 years ago and got a big ol’ charcoal grille from Sam's Club, very similar to yours Kenny, only not so shiny anymore. We've never looked back, even got a small "Smokey Joe" for when we go camping.

Had leftovers tonight, but good steaks for tomorrow!

Enjoy, Kenny.

Power still out, will be eating (lots of) cheese before it goes bad.

We've a Webber charcoal kettle and a gas unit. I prefer the charcoal but the gas one is convenient.

Went out with friends to a local. Had fish 'n chips, a few pints o' Guinness. Drove home with the top down, T-shirts... Beautiful evening. T'morrow AM there will be pancakes onna gas grill. Big 1/4" plate steel griddle!

Tony,

I must humble myself in the presence of absolute brilliance. It may be too late for me, but any of you young married guys out there, follow Tony's techniques...he is truly a master. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

We're having grilled ribeye steaks tonight.

I'm gonna have to try making pancakes one day. I have a portable propane camping stove... I kinda figured it's as close to a gas grill I'll ever get. We like the flavors from the charcoal grill too much... and it doesn't take that long. We used mesquite wood chips last night. yummy!

Can you send me a plate of pulled pork
and some deep fried okra?? yum.

Tinster

Pulled pork ain't that hard to make (if you have a smoker or a large grill like mine)... Boston Butt, boiled in the kitchen for an hour in plain old water, smoked for 4-7 hours with apple wood chips and maybe some alder or oak wood chips mixed together, (spray out the flameups with 100% apple juice - get some on the meat once every 1/2 hour while smoking too), burn the meat at some points , and then shred it off the bone with a fork. Mix up your favorite "thinned" BBQ sauce, and pour on top of the meat.

I cheat - 1 bottle of Cattlemans Original BBQ sauce mixed with 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar, a dash of liquid smoke, a couple dashes of Yucatan Sunshine habanero hot sauce (optional - use your own favorite hotsauce, or none at all), 1 crushed clove of garlic, 1 finely-diced yellow onion (or half a white onion), and fresh ground pepper. simmer for 10 minutes inna sauce pan. add to meat as wanted. Bottle the rest... should last a couple weeks in the fridge.

Fried okra is awsome, but I've never made any. not in my bag of tricks yet. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I don't know where you live, but I want a transfer... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Wife made enchalatas (sp) tonight. Great stuff!!
Last summer I won a Vermont Casting BBQue unit in a raffle. Love the unit even though it is gas. Will "invest" in a charcoal unit this spring.
