Any one know what this lift a dot stud for? It's just below the seat belt anchor(if you have one) on each side of the car.

Also does anyone have this piece of vinyl at the bottom just behind the sill on each side. It appears to fill in between the carpet and the small panel over the wheel. Is it some thing I should replace with the new panel?

I've never seen one there before, but that description makes some sense.
 
Hmmm, isn't that for the hood stick cover?
 
Too low for the hood stick cover. My buddy has one of those studs on his TR3B that he's had since '64 and he doesn't know what it's for either. I'll look tonight and see if one of the snaps on my tonneau matches up with that location.
 
Don't know about the stud, but yes, you will have to put a small piece of replacement vinyl on the lower floor area to insure everything is covered.

Eric: Your car was produced a few weeks before mine, TS 58476 LO (1 Sept '59). Here is a close-ups of that area. As you can see, I also have that stud, and the original owner did order the car to include the optional tonneau cover. Sorry for the quality - these were taken in the early days of consumer digital cameras. I think this was my first Sony - 1 megapixel was a Big Deal.

That particular lift-the-dot stud is for securing the tonneau cover. According to the TR Parts Catalog, they were only fitted if you ordered a tonneau with your car. However, I think all TR3A's eventually had them installed at the factory.

All this is new to me. I did not order a tonneau cover when I bought my 1958 TR3A brand new in May 1958 and there is only the usual #4 trim screw and cupped washer in that location. My Comm. No. is TS 27489 LO. About 1963 or so, a chap sold me his tonneau cover which came with his TR3 and which he had scrapped in a horrible crash. The tonneau fits my TR3A beautifully but it does not have the slit at the top of the dog-leg like they started to use on later TRs than mine. See photo of mine.

Is it possible that they started to put this peg there when they introduced the tonneau covers with the side slit ? At this point, S-T also moved the top peg on the dog-leg about 2" higher. Notice that the top peg on mine is lower than the later TRs.

The top/tonneau stud spacing was made closer around the rear scuttle after TS41743, with one extra eyelet to better secure the top. It had been known to blow out across the back at speed with the side curtains off.

I'd forgotton all about that tonneau peg down in the rear footwell. Trouble was the peg was fiddly to locate down behind the driver's side fixed back seat, especially for tall owners with the seat fully back. So it was never used when we were yougsters in our impatience to get to the beach.
