I tried pizza soup once. Never again...

Actually we had leg of lamb for Christmas dinner and a six pound leg is a lot of meat for two. So,

2 1/2 lbs pork or lamb, cubed
1 1/2 cups chopped onions
2 tablespoons oil
2 cloves garlic, mashed
1 teaspoon caraway seed
2 teaspoons marjoram
1 tablespoon sweet paprika
2 tablespoons brown sugar
grating fresh lemon rind
2 cups stock
1/2-1 cup sour cream

Serve over noodles, add a nice salad and some vegetables. VoilĂ ! Soup is on.

Got the same mold, Mick....been used so many times it'll turn grey occassionally....soaked in cooking oil through all its pours.

When my 92 year old mother-in-law died and her children were settling her estate, they asked each of the grandchildren what they would like from her house as a keepsake....Shannon, my daughter, only wanted her old cast iron skillet....said some of the best food she'd eaten had been cooked in that skillet.....& its stil tastes as good as ever....& Shannon learned from her gramma how to properly take care of it (never washed with anything except clear water; always kept in the old cloth cornmeal flour bag soaked in oil, etc.)

Okay, no sugar, but how about molasses? My mudder and grandma made the best cornbread in the world, to me. Used a cast iron skillet and another one to cover. Molasses was in their menuse(Brer Rabbit, if I remember right). Mom was born in Oklahoma, and her Mom was from Florida, so I guess they weren't "Yankees".

My family prides itself on just being "Americans".

My grandmother took her cornbread with molasses....she'd pour the molasses on a plate, cut a hunk of butter & stir it into the molasses....then, she'd 'dip' her cornbread in the molasses....she was born in the late 1800's & did that until she died in 1969! She'd also crumble cornbread into a glass of buttermilk & eat it with a spoon!
 
I make our cornbread with a big amount of baking powder.I add some vanilla to it and after I pour into a pan add some cinnamon to it. Syrup and butter to eat.

HERESAY!! PAGAN!! To ruin good cornbread like that would get you hung out & quartered here in the South!!! :cheers:
 
We don't do Cornbread here on Long Island. We're more a Rye and Pumpernickel crowd! :laugh:

Cornbread made with bacon dripings, baked in a cast iron pan. Turnip greens,
pork roast, blackeyed peas and sweet potato casserole. Plenty of REAL butter
and blackberry jam.

HALLELUJIAH, BROTHER!!</span> except I don't like sweet potatoes anyway except tossed into the oven wrapped in aluminum foil & then eaten straight out of the skin with butter...yummmmmmm. We'll have pork, blackeyed peas, turnip greens, cabbage & potatoes, cornbread and Splenda sweetened iced tea & blackberry jam - homemade with seeds still in it! Jerri will probably make a pecan pie with our own pecans (I'm not supposed to eat it but she allows me 1 slice - 'cept she won't let me slice it!)

Just reading that has got me lifted nearer to Heaven. Yes Yes Yes - thank you Tony!

I will be there (in my dreams) with appetite in hand. And I'll eat *all* the unwanted sweet potatoes.

(not quite sure about that Splenda thing ... I think with blackberry jam and pecan pie, I'd just go ahead and indulge in the 10 calories of real sugar in my tea)

My Dad eats his in buttermilk! He pours a glass of buttermilk about half full and then stuffs it full of cornbread sticks (yes we have 2 of those pans..one cooks 6 sticks and I have one that cooks 9)
I also inherited from my mother in a law a cast iron corn bread muffin pan. It makes 11 muffins.

I gotta go make some now as a matter of fact. We are having beef stew with corn bread tonight! MMMMMMMMM
