I have read numerous posts referring to a "dizzy" when talking about distributors. What exactly is a dizzy?

A dizzy is that broad that hit me in the B and I had to chase down for 3 miles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Not sure, but venturing a guess here, maybe dizzy is just another 'name' for distributor? Like tranny for transmission?
 
Yes, Distributor. Or the feeling I get when I think about replacing my sills!
