What're You Looking For in a BBS

Each of us comes over here for different reasons. I'm curious what each of you is looking for when you visit MG-Forum? Is it technical help? Camaradrie? Jokes? Friendship? Something else?

Just Curious...& wondering what could be done differently to make this the busiest MG BBS on the internet?

I came here looking for my first LBC, Emma. I stayed.

For all the above reasons.

What makes it the best? No flaming, no political jokes, I can read it with my daughter reading over my shoulder and not worry about what she is seeing. That being said, this is also the largest grouping of British Car know how that I have ever seen. I came here asking a technical question about rebuilding zenith carbs. The responses I got were both warm and technically correct to the point that I felt more comfortable with the info I got here than what I was reading in my Haynes manual. When I come to BCF I feel like I'm standing in the garage with a bunch of friends. I've never met a group of people so willing to help. Kudos to Basil for building such a community. I'm JC and I'm a British Car Forum - aholic.

Could it have been said better, don't think so. This place is a joy. Get to visit with all my LBC friends, Tony, pappy, Jay, Jolly, and on and on. They all seem to like there toys and are willing to share. God what a Christmas party we could have. It would take days.

Merry Christmas folks.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif Amen, Brother!

"When I come to BCF I feel like I'm standing in the garage with a bunch of friends. I've never met a group of people so willing to help."

Those words work perfectly for me, too. This is the best of both worlds, all that is needed is to spread the word!

ah yes... I can see it now... a new logo with greasy hand prints in the background and a new slogan: "Don't forget your fender covers" or "Bring your own Lava"... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I initally showed up for the technical help, but stayed for the camaradrie, jokes, friendship, and all of the something elses. I find the layout to be brilliant, too.
As my restoration is in its infancy, I've posted quite a few questions, but also printed out threads that I know will be relevant for me sooner or later. (Most recently, the "Weber Carb performance" thread.) I like to keep up with Jaybirds exploits, (related somehow to Penelope Pitstop?), the walking knowledge bases like Tony, DrEntropy, Keoke, SteveS, and at least a dozen others. The sense of community is great - without the forum here, I think I would know perhaps one or two other LBC owners at the most.
Oh, and if we do have a forum-wide Christmas party, I'll bring the pumpkin cheesecake /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think this said it all /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif I have a killer receipt (sp) for the worlds best chocolate chip cookies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grouphug.gif

Well, we'd all like to have a copy of your cookie "receipt" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Just because I'm a bookmobile librarian doesn't mean I can spell. I'll post the recipe on the Pub forum. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

I know, I was just yanking your chain - in a friendly sort of way!

And that is precisely why the forum works so well....a little bit of fun, but when someone needs answers, no matter how trivial the question may seem, there are plenty of members willing to help.

to answer the question ... which I had dodged earlier... what brought me to this site originally a year and a half ago was google. What got me to sign up was the lay out and the fact that the forum search engine was easily found and works well, and the forum activity seemed fairly good. The organization of sepparate forums for "off topic" banter really helped make my decision because I could read throught eh car forums and learn stuff I wanted to know without having to sort through "Off-topic" banter.

What keeps me coming back is the friendly atmosphere, and the fact that there's always someone with a bit of information that I can learn from regardless if its something as simple as shortening bump stops or as complicated as changing rocker assemblies...

Someone earlier gave the best description I've seen for the atmosphere here... it's like standing in your bud's garage ... albeit virtual, but a garage full of people with the smae interests and sometimes questions... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I too, came here in my search for a LBC (my 4th actually) and enjoyed the atmosphere here ( I like the bud's garage anology) that I have stayed...it is almost as much fun as playing with the car. I have learned a lot and have been able to give back based on some of my experience.

You mean there are other LBC forums???

Where's th' pizza an' beer, though?

That part leaves a "bit" to be desired... or p'raps a "byte"?

I wish I could say technical help, but I made peace with the fact that I'm a horrible mechanic years ago! I can't offer much help and I can't use the help I get very well, so I really just enjoy reading what people are doing, looking at pics and sharing my stories or ideas about these cars. I also like hearing about tire set ups, engine and trans mods and so on.
