Hi, I'm a new member and I need help with this trivia question. Does anyone one know what year the Jaguar used in the movie "Vanishing Point" was? I appreciate any help and if possible a way to verify the information if possible, Thanks

The Jag-Lovers site thread indicates a Series I, E-type OTS but no year.

We talking the 1971 movie? That might help narrow it down. Now where's that IMDB site for cars?

Yes, it's the 1971 movie. We know that it is a seriesI XKE, but we have to get the year and believe me we have been searching hard!

May I ask why you say 1967, can you point me towards somewhere to verify this ? Thanks, I appreciate all the help.

The fixed front license plate holder suggests that this is an early E-Type. But as rough as this car looks to be , the brackets could be from the local parts store. The factory parts manuals do not have an illustration of the brackets or the retrofit tilting tag mechanism. If you can enhance the pic of the E-Type and see an oval hole in the front underpanel then this is useless information. Somewhere around car number 860000 , all bonnets had the oval hole. There is a part # for the oval hole plug. TMI?

Also , every 3.8 litre E-Type I recall has the antennae on the right side as does the car in the pic. I have seen 4.2 cars elsewhere.

I got my information from a Dave Clark 5 album that has a similar car on the back cover and the album is dated 1968 but the license plate sticker on the front nose corresponds to 1967, year of registration. If you require an exact manufacturing date, contact www.hollywood cars.com or www.jags on film.com I also have a 1968 video showing the Dave Clark 5 driving 3 identical white E types, which can be assumed were 1967 models.

Lookin' for emperical data, not assumption here... and 3.8's were pre-67, BTW.
