What year is the fender on this midget?

Hi everybody,

I just got a 72 Midget, however, the fenders do not match and I am wondering if somebody could help me identify what year they belong to.
Here is the link:

Thanks a lot.

I'm not so sure about it being the wrong fender. There is a problem with the way the rest of the body fits in that area? The best way to tell about the fenders is a straight on shot where we can see the turn signals. Anyway, snap a few more pictures and we will be able to help for sure.

The difference in the fenders from year to year was in the turn signal and side lights, that is why a head on shot is needed. The lower aft section were all the same. It is tough to tell from the photo, but it looks like a repair was attempted and they broke the sheet metal which gave the straight edge on the fender. It looks like the fender is junk. It is pretty easy to remove and inspect the inside. There are bolts that are accessed in the foot well for the fender. It also looks like the cowl to sill fitment is off as well, but it may just be the camera angle. The attached photo is probably what it looked like before the repair (although the photo is of the drivers side). You can see the curvature of the fender still.

Midget72, where in Mi. are you located? I've got a '72 for comparison, along with at least one of just about every other year until '74.

As ChrisS says, all wings (fenders) were the same in that area, whether it was a Frogeye or a 1500, that bit stayed the same.
What has happened is that someone has cut the curved bottom edge off the wing - maybe to get rid if the rust.
The fix is either get a new wing, or weld in a repair section which will put the curve back.

I updated the Midget72 page with a new picture that includes the lights. Looks like I'll have to shop for new fenders though.

Bugeye58, I am from Sterling Heights (Metro Detroit area).
Thanks everybody!

I can not figure out how to get access to the bolts in the foot well. Can anybody give more detail instructions?

Remove the interior panel in the foot well and there should be some bolts behind it holding on the fender. It has been a while since I've pulled one, but I think there are three bolts. Send me your email address and I'll send you a diagram.

Check your mail. The interior panel I was talking about was the trim, if you have metal there then the panel is already removed. The bolts should be towards the A pillar.

I got it off and the fender is welded together from some scrap metal LOL Chris was right. Does anybody have Midget fenders for a reasonable price? please email me off the forum.

I'll check my parts car and see how they look. If they are OK I'll email you some pics.
