What Would YOU Have Done?

NO interviews from me!
Back in 94 my little Sister got Killed in a Motorcycle accident, Immediately after she passed {In the E.R. Room} We get reporters in our face. {NOT COOL!} I ushered my Mother and other Sister out to our car and proceede home. Once arriving at home a flood of incoming calls {Reporters} wanting to attain the story for thier prospective media outlets. I/we declined! The very next day we see the story about our Sibling/Daughter in several of the local papers and on T.V.
{Again NOT COOL!} The stories they CONCOCTED was NOT EVEN CLOSE to what actually happened! I suppose it made thier superiors and possibly even some subscribers happy to enlighten themselfs on someones subpositions and inuendo of the events. Every sence that event, I have taken news reports with a grain of salt. I KNOW FOR A FACT that if they {the reporters} don`t get the story from the proverbial "Horses Mouth" they will make one up that best suite thier needs {adjenda}. More and moreso every day these VULTURES thrive on trajedy! NO interviews from me even if I was a first hand witness. NOPE NO WAY!
It`s just fodder for the Lawyers to twist your words into meaningful phrases to suit thier adjendas.
I would however tell what I saw in court. But NO WHERE ELSE!

I have no problems with reporters. What I have a problem with is reporters who want to stick a microphone and camera in places of no actual news value just so they can get something to run which has something to do with actual news. That is just plain lazy.

Want to be a journalist? Fine- you should know that eliciting reaction from an anguished mother or grandmother is not news- its voyeurism.

Getting a neighbor to say "always seemed odd" or "I never would have thought" isn't news either- its irrelevant.

If you don't have to moxy or talent to cover the actual news story, footage of something tangentially involved with actual news is a waste of time.

I think "get off my property" would pretty much cover it.

Then again if they'd rang my doorbell the dogs would have gone nuts. Hearing them holding forth really sorts the wheat from the chaff when it comes to unexpected visitors.

With the way that TV news is structured now, they believe that they are in the entertainment industry and not the information industry.

MMMFFFF!!!!!

(Exercising much restraint here!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

They should treat it like it was their family involved.
I've seen some media treat people with respect. But it doesn't happen often enough.
We had an officer shoot & (unfortunalty) kill a 16
year old boy,who pulled a 10" hunting knife on the officer.
His mother (who lost custody of him at age 10)immediatley
started a media frenzy against the cops.Wrong!Wrong!Wrong!
I prefer to have balanced reporting.Enough said.

aerog, buzzards eat airplanes? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif while living in savn Geo. my date and i were walking back to my car (tr6) and got robbed at gun point, the Robers left the scene on bicycles, leaving the girl behind i got in the tr6 pursued them and ran them both over breaking one of their legs and smashing one against a stone wall, retrieving all of the $6.00 they took and sent them to the hospital and jail, naturally the t.v. news idiots showed up but i wouldnt talk to them, they hounded me for over a week at my house but i never did speak with them, they were irate to the point of personally insulting me, so what do they do but print the event my name address and place of employment in the local news paper, brilliant.(so its a matter of public record for any one who doubts this story) as has been mentioned here all they want to do is "spectacularize" anything they can for ratings, to me they are hartless blood sucking idiots.

Just a quick thought - if people called the advertisers who sponsor those evening news shows, and said they've stopped buying their products and watching that station, I'd bet the "spectacularization" would greatly diminish.

It's easy to complain, but we're reluctant to take action.

I'm not sure I agree that "most" people want to watch this type of reporting. There does not seem to be much choice if you want to see local reporting. I think the man on the street interviews are a waste of my time. That is when I normally read e-mail.

As someone just said..
if you do not like the way a store was handled, make you feeling known.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]Yesterday afternoon, at a house three doors down from us, there was a shooting. Apparently, a guy was caught in the middle of a break-in when the owners returned home. The wife was shot in the chest by the assailant/robber. She was life-flighted to Vanderbilt; haven't heard her condition.

We're in a quiet neighborhood close to the downtown area. Not exactly what anyone would expect, but then isn't that usually the case?[/QUOTE]
Mickey, how's your neighbor?

I've been to Mickey's house numerous times - its in a quiet, out-of-the-way, historic-type, Beaver Cleaver neighborhood where you'd not expect to have any problems - not even with loud music! What a shame!

A letter to the station is already on its way. (Wonder if anyone of substance there will read it...)

Update on the story - The perpetrator was caught shortly after the shooting. Wasn't a random thing - the homeowners also own a jewelry shop, and the guy figured they would have pretty shiny things in their home. Made off with a $10K Rolex.

The woman is still in critical condition.

Glad to hear they caught the perp! Lets hope his sentence is nothing trivial.

For a true contrast in style in news reporting, watch the BBC America channel World news, then watch ANY U.S. news service...Facts vs. Opinions!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

The majority of the viewing public sure seems to like it. If not, they would turn the channel to something that reports differently and other channels would follow suit in order to keep their viewers. Nothing attracts ratings like misery and insults.

Look at gossip magazines. Nothing but invasion of privacy, speculation, lies and intentional, extreme exaggeration. They sell like hot cakes.

Hi Folks;

Just driving thru /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Personally; I don`t watch the news or even read a newpaper! Have`nt in yrs! Nothing good to watch or read; Locally or Nationally!!

In my opinion; All you read about are Kids being abducted, Killings, Break Ins, Robberies, Cost of living skyrocketing, Home Forclosures etc etc:

Why don`t these Freakin reporters put some "GOOD NEWS" on the front page like; "85 year old woman hits the lottery for $3.9 Bazillion Dollars" or "Jim of the BCF wins Car of the Month" or something nice like that!!

It is un-fortunate that the newspapers look for the most gawdiest things in the world to write about just to keep thier ratings up & worst off the vast majority of people in the world read this Crap; Why?? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Just a passing thought;

Regards, Russ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif
