TR5/TR250 What were they thinking! [A TR250 gone mad]

Wow. Thought it looked like Wire Wheel Classics' parking lot. Have been there, and they are a first rate operation. He will sell these sort of things without trying to pretend they're anything but the pigs they are. But on the other hand, he has very nice stuff, and his website is one to keep an eye on. (No connection, other than almost bought a Lotus there, and later visited the shop while on a nearby business trip.)

I saw this without pics a few months back on their site.
It has the potential to be *really* fast. I have a book with an fi jag engine that has about 400hp on it. Much cooler looking than a v8 too.

If I didn't have mine on the go I'd have considered it back when I first saw it. I still think it's neat.

...take a look at the skuttle panel around the windscreen (what's left of it).

[/ QUOTE ]If I'm looking at the same picture, what I see is what's left of the padded dash top, not rust.

I see what you mean - the scuttle outer panel looks to be missing, doesn't it?

The car is something different anyway... Does anyone know what that engine swap would change in the weight and weight distribution relative to a TR engine?

Ouch! That poor TR-250. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I bet it sounded pretty good when it was running!

Its nice to see a tr6 with enough "go" to rake the windshield. I wonder what kind of rear axle it has? I guess it would be an understatement to say sure would need some good ujoints if it is stock axle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gifCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Jooi I found a site talking about engine swaps. No weights but it said the v12 was about 100lbs more than a small block.

Am I crazy or did they change the angle of the windshield? At first I thought maybe it was just the perspective of the picture, but it really looks like they laid it back at a shallower angle.

I actually like the car, or rather what it was and could be again with some work. Only thing that bothers me is that they hacked up a TR250 to do it. If it was done on a TR6 all would be well, no more one less rare car issue to worry about.

I think in the first photo it's just propped into place - if you look in the background of the second photo, you can see it laying on the ground.

I must admit it's an intriguing project, but I sure don't need anything else to work on right now!

I didn't see the second pic before (the engine compartment). Looks like the footwell area has got to be really narrow (not surprisingly) - see how the master cylinders have been repositioned. I am wondering about how the steering was set up - no sign of anything in either of the pictures as far as I can see.

There is a small range of adjustment built into the windshield to allow the side windows to seal properly, but he must have bent the the posts to rake it back like that!
I am only able to spot 5 air intake trumpets each side; the engine must be mounted pretty far back, there must be a lot of the firewall cut away, which would make the body structure rather flexible I would think.
Simon.

I gather the swap was done back in the 70's when a TR-250 as just another TR and not something special.

My guess is it went something like this: "Hmm... just blew the motor in the TR-250... and my buddy has a wrecked Jag, but the engine is still good..."

In many ways, it's amazing the car survived at all...

Call me crazy but I like it, wonder what he used in the rear to get the four wheel disc brakes, (Jag)? Wayne

I felt the same way. I can't stand it when I see a mangled 250, but if you look close I believe this is a 4. It looks like the door lock is in the push knob and not the door.

Yes, could be a 4 - the "TR250" badge is centered on the bonnet, and not to the left. The grill also looks like from a 4. In either case, not pretty.

Are Wayne and I the only ones that think this is cool? I mean, the car is a piece of crap, but the idea of a 12 in a TR shell is sweet... the exhaust sound alone would almost be worth the price of admission!

I think once I get a shop built this would be a nice project!
