TR2/3/3A What weight gear oil to use in TR3 transmission?

Thanks, Randall. I have OD and am using MT90, so I'll continue using it (despite its propensity to find places to leak).

In the old days we used an additive called "Molyslip" which was a molybdenum disulphide lubricant which was added to 90 weight gear oil. (This was in Africa so lower temperatures were not a problem.
The oil probably had an additive package for the brass bushings.

Simon - I have heard from years ago not to use Molyslip if you have an overdrive. It will cause the cone clutch in the O/D to slip.

I've wondered about that from time to time. Thing is, the synchronizer rings also use cone clutches. If the Molyslip interferes with the OD clutches, why doesn't it also interfere with the synchronizer clutches?

MoS2 is supposed to be very effective with heavy loads and low surface speeds, so it seems to me that the only explanation as to how Molyslip doesn't interfere with synchro operation is that it actually doesn't put the moly where it makes any difference.

In direct drive, there aren't any sliding surfaces carrying a load, so I don't see how it would actually help anyway.
