What Was Your Favorite Car In The Past?

Here's a photo of a favorite car of mine. 1957 Pontiac convertible. This was not my car. Mine was red and white. Had it over 100 mph once, only once!

Marcos 1800, never had one, always wanted one

1955 Jaguar Mark VII

Got it for $800 when I graduated from high school. Eight mpg, but my parents felt I could be hit by a Greyhound Bus and survive with only minor damage.

1955 Chevy Nomad. One of my first matchbox cars was a yellow one and I still have it. Very beat up but still rolling. This is one of the tops on my list.

When I was in High School I was extremely lucky to find a 1967 Jaguar EType Coupe for sale at a price I could afford (with my Dad co-signing the loan). It was owned by a young couple who were expecting their first baby and they needed something more practical, so I was able to work a trade for my 63 Pontiac Catalina plus about $2200 in cash. This was in 1970. I sold the car in 1972 when I joined the military. Thirty-some years later, through a chance posting I saw on a mailing list, I found my old high school car still alive and well in Denver, Colorado and had the opportunity to visit the current owner and even drive my old Jag again. I would give my eye teeth to have that car again, but the current owner is not interested in selling. Picture of how it looks today (same as it did when I owned it) is attached.

MGA

I have a nice MGB now, and I love my Spridgets, but the MGA has always been my favourite.

I bought a '56 wire-wheel MGA in '67 for $200. Sold it for $60 (running) two years later. Would like another eventually.

Also (don't laugh) I wish I had my old Austin A40 back (bought it for $20 in '66).

Well aeronca65t, I'm just at the end of breaking down an A70 Hampshire for bits for my Healey, hated to see the body etc go to waste, but even the austin clubs over here werent interested in it unless I paid for freight etc after I dismantled for free, what was interesting is how they were better technology in some areas than the healey that was derived from them!

Strangely, I've always had an affection for Model A Fords.

But probably my favorite car to drive is the E-type Jag, much like Basil's, above.

I think if I had some huge financial windfall, like winning the lottery, the first car I'd buy for my collection would be a pristine '67-'68 E type Jag!

I've always loved them. :driving:

Boy, that is a loaded question!! Favorite car I have owned in the past, or just favorite old car ever? Road car or race car? Favorite I have owned would be a be a toss-up between my '69 Fiat 124 SC and '77 VW Scirocco! Favorite old car ever...whew! Too many to choose just one! Favorite race car ever, another toss-up, Lola T70 or Porsche 917!

 Other than my original Healey (100-S) my all time favorite was a 1970 Opel GT (white with red interior. During my first winter driving season, the plastic assembly holding the visor snapped twice because of the cold. I replaced the assembly twice. Finally on the third breaking I had the assembly machined out of metal. Cost me a fortune! I had the car for eight (8) years until (bad) first husband took it without permission and managed to be the car in the middle. That was the end of the Opel GT. Never did forgive him for it, especially since he didn't have my permission to take the car. I used to be and still am very possessive of my vehicles. When I have a car I like I keep it forever. Last daily driver a 1996 Jimmy didn't get sold until 2006, likewise 1989 Mercury Cougar didn't get sold until 1996. Now daily driver is a 2004 GMC Envoy. Great SUV and not planning on selling in the near future - perchaps in 2014 if I'm still around.

I think my favorite of my non LBC's was my '57 Pontiac, Star Chief 2dr HT, Silver and white with a white leather interior.
Gorgeous car, and would love to find another just like it.
And the '29 Whippet I had.
Jeff

paup161, my dad had a 1951 Studebaker champion, kind of a "khaki" color, he sold it in 1956 i still remember him and the buyer shaking hands over the agreed purchase price, i dont know why but i loved that car and cried for an hour after the new owner drove it away, i still dig the looks of that thing! i felt a lot better when he brought home the new two door 1955 olds 88. white over red, red and white interior, and huge in comparison, ah, i fell in love with that one as well.

The Chevy Nomad for sure, then there was the MG td, the Healey, the TR4, the Lotus Super 7, a 1952 Dodge Power Wagon field ambulance....

I have a hard time making up my mind, but the Chevy was the first...

basil, at least you know these people love that car as well, its obvious looking at its condition, ya never know, you did ask for "first dibs" right? :savewave:

Good friend of mine had one of these in high school.

I thought it was just favorite older car. Wish I owned an old Chevy.

Being a child in the 80's, my definition of 'past' is skewed from the mainstream. However, 3 cars always made it into the 'I want' category as favourites. No order.
i. Rover SD1 Vitesse
ii. MG J2
iii. Ford Escort RS2000

WOW!!

Loaded question, but I guess it would depend on when.
First car was a 65 Mustang convertible 289 auto.
Red with white interior. This car attracted bikinis faster than anything else. I think this would be my fav because the car was great and so are the memories.

I also had an 83 Honda Prelude. The first year of the dual carbs 1.8 litre (based on the MGB setup). This car never had a warranty claim or a repair except regular service in 12 years. Best car I ever owned and fast.

Of course all the exotics and unaffordables rate highly but these two were mine and were FUN!

:yesnod:

Favorite cars from the past?

What a loaded question indeed. I'm guessing it excludes cars we currently own so...

Owned: I'd have to say my old yellow 67 Plymouth Barracuda.

Wish I owned.

Long list but if I had to pick just one I'd take mine with a martini shaken not stured...
