Is the brown paint used on the edge of the dashboard plywood and enamel or what?
What has been used to good effect by others?
Thanks

I used Hammerite because it was in garage because i had used it on some body panels

Got mine at Lowes, Java Bean, rust-oleum, American Accents and it was real close. It's a spray and after a good tape job much better than a brusch. Leave the tape a bit high and spray from both sides. It didn't take much to cover, take your time and do a good tape job. Use the blue paint tape, masking tape worries me on this application.

Mark, should have done that before you veneered.

The original finish seems to be epoxy ... based on the smell it made when sanding/chipping it off.

I plan to either mix epoxy and paint, or paint brown and cover with epoxy.

If it's not a simple polyurethane, then it could be an acrylic lacquer. According to wikipedia, it's generally a primer, colour coat and clear topcoat.
