What to do in Milwaukee in the winter!

Shirley and I made our second trip this season to the Mitchell Park Domes in Milwaukee last Thursday and Friday. Up at 4am on Thursday so we could get there in time to set up and be ready to run trains by 9am. Left the trains overnight and ran Friday again.

There were not so many there on Thursday but Friday was teacher conferences and there were probably 2 or 3 thousand kids with parents and grandparents. And they were some of the best behaved kids that you could imagine.

This is the biggest fund raiser the Domes has and we train people donate all our time. It is estimated that we bring in over $250,000 worth of trains for display during the show.

One photo is of the three kids running trains that day. I am the young one in the middle.

There are three domes, desert, tropical, and the show dome where the trains are set up.

Tom neat layouts.. definitely would help shake off these winter time blues....makes me get the spring fever bug!!

Looks like a lot of fun Tom. Forgive me, but that one photo reminded me of the movie Silent Running.

whoa ... does that bring back memories. When I lived in Mwaukey (!) we called them the Dolly Parton monument. :jester:

Great place to go in mid-winter.

And Greg - Silent Running. *GREAT* movie. Remember when the robot first tries to plant a pine tree, and gets the "dig hole, plant tree, cover roots, water tree" rules out of order?

Always enjoyed visiting the domes. Went there for an elementary school trip and would visit when relatives came in from out of town. I grew up a stone's throw away in New Berlin.

What to do in Milwaukee in the winter! The same thing they do in the summer, drink beer.

Looks like a lot of fun at that gathering.

Have some friends in New Berlin, Rick. And one of the BCF members lives just south of Greenfield Ave.

Ray, we have a great time. Some of the people that visit are very interesting to talk to. And the questions from the kids are fun!

My hat? Wished I had it along, it is an all glass building and the sun gets pretty bright sometimes.

Brats, and beer!!!!!
