What to do about rust on the back side of bumpers?

Drive fast enough everywhere you go so the ONLY possible view for other drivers is the shiny side?! :driving:

That sillyness aside, the others have already covered it.
 
I figured you'd have score of possible conclusions to your question.
So i proposed a response that might be rhetorical in nature.
 
Sorry to chime in late. But on mine I lightly blasted the back after taping the edges of the chrome just in case. Then I coated with a stainless steel coating by Rustoleum Pro. If yours are really rusty, then rust converter as suggested first.
 
Remove the worst with some sandpaper, then POR-15 in silver.
 
Twenty years ago, I had the front bumper straightened and re-chromed. They did the inside as well. Now after 103,000 miles and 20 summers, the chrome still looks like new.

So, some day, when you decide to have yours re-chromed, have them do the inside as well. Till then, you have lots of suggestions above.
