Hi all,

I wanted to take a minute to say hello. I joined up because I'm thinking about getting a convertible to drive and tinker on and am trying to sort out what is best for me. As of now I think I am most interested in the MGB, Triumph Spitfire, and have also looked at a Fiat Spider 124 (obviously not British). I'm not exactly sure how to make go about making the decision so I thought I'd poke around here and see what I can find. Also, I want to make sure whatever I buy isn't a big pile of junk that gets me in way over my head. Regardless, I wanted to say hello and look forward to learning a lot more in the near future. Thank you for whatever thoughts and advice you might have.

Jump on over to the MG and TR sections and ask away - lots of folks there to assist. And when you find cars to look at, be sure to post pictures and particular questions about them.

Oh, and you'll no doubt hear this ad nauseum, but RUST IS NOT YOUR FRIEND! :wink:

Thanks for the reply Mickey. I posted basically the same thing in the MG forum so we'll see what kind of response I get. You are correct about the rust issue, I've heard that a lot so far. I've also heard a lot about watching for electrical issues so those are two things I'm considering. Actually, I found a car that I thought looked pretty good down near Lexington, KY but it had been rewired directly off the battery and had significant brake problems. I decided to keep looking!

I'm hoping to find something at a reasonable price that works. I'm not as concerned with paint or interior problems as those are things I can fix fairly easily over time. Maybe it's a pipe dream but I've seen a few that look promising, they're just far away from Cincinnati.
 
:savewave: Welcome to the Forum! I would worry more about the rust issues that you encounter than the electrical problems. But that's just my opinion!!

"Welcome" to the BCF. "THEE" most informative site you`ll come across for any LBC (Little British Car).

It sounds like your going in the right direction with looking at an "MGB". Thats probably one of the best cars to search for cause you simply get the "Biggest Bang for your Buck" and that $$$ is typ. not too high.

Should your budget dictate what you can buy; You may also want to check out a "Triumph Spitfire".

A "124 Spyder" is a pretty decent car but they simply are not appreciating as the LBCs.

A guy in our local club here is selling his low mileage '72 MGB. If you're interested send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with him. I think he's asking $11K, but it has under 50k mles and is in great shape.
