After stuffing around with my TOIT LOIKE A TOIGER oil filter... i was looking under the car and noticed this...

I noticed i have a oil leak from where the green arrow points. Do you guys know what the thing with the red circle around it is? Its underneith the gearbox.

that's the slave cylinder for your clutch. The clutch is hydrolically operated similar to how the brakes work.

As mentioned its the slave cylinder. Are you sure it's leaking or has engine oil accumulated on it and found another place to drip from? If the cylinder itself is leaking its not a hard job at all to change it. About an hour job with simple hand tools.

plus another hour for bleeding it if you're not careful... took me 10 minutes to swap in a new master cylinder on my car, but an hour to bleed it. Would have taken A LOT less time to bleed it if I kept better tabs on the fluid levels in the master cylinder resivoir... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Hard to say, but given that there seems to be a droplet about to detach from the bolt straight ahead center in the pictures, I 'd bet that there is a leak some in another location - maybe in addition to whatever is occuring at the slave. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

A tip for bleeding the slave cylinder: Don't bolt it to the trans. Leave the pushrod unhooked. Crack the bleeder screw. Hold the slave in one hand with bleed screw at the highest position. Press the pushrod against a fixed object, all the while keeping the bleed screw high. With air bubbles rising to the top, you'll be sure to get all the air out. Tighten the screw when you don't see any more bubbles. Another cool thing about this is that you don't really even need a helper mashing the clutch pedal.

wow... that would have been a heck of a lot easier to do than what I ended up doing... I ended up with 2 helpers when I bled my clutch: Me on the slave cylinder, helper 1 on the clutch pedal, helper 2 keeping an eye on the master cylinder.
