What size nuts are use on the dash mounting bolts?

I uh... removed my dash a few months ago, and lost the nuts that attach to the bolts on the dash (yes/dumb/bad/I know). Anyone know what size these are? They seem to be fine thread. I had a 1/4" fine thread, but it doesn't seem to work so I'm wondering if it's some kind of metric oddity.

No strange metric bolts in our cars, should be 1/4-28 or 5/16-24, both national fine. Should be able to get them at a good hardware store.

Odd. I did pick up some 1/4-28's and they don't seem to go on. Maybe the bolt threads are a bit bodgered up? I'll go back and examine more closely...

It really help when working on our cars to have a few taps and dies, the 1/4-28 and the 5/15-24 are very useful.

I did a wax mold imprint of the dash bolts & took it back to the hardware store - and it matched the 1/4-28 bolt. Picked up a 1/4-28 die too, and will clean them up with that.

It is for sure 1/4 28. I just took the dash off my 77 today. I seem to remember the nuts on the 71 being smaller though but it has been several years and I could be mistaken. The nuts for the braces use a 3/8 wrench and I believe they are 10/28.
