I cant figure out which grill I want to install. I dont know whats original because I see cars with both. I guess originality isnt that big of a deal, but Im kinda liking both, and cants decide.

Also, something quite not right about my bumper guards. They are for a TR 4 or 5, I dunno. I got two damaged ones with the GT6 and two damaged ones with the extra chassis. Problem is, I can only find one of each. Whats interesting is one is very small, and the other rather large. Did they make two different sizes for the MK1s? I see tons of pictures with the big ones, and a couple few with the little ones. Whats the deal? Are they from a spitfire?

If we're voting, I'm going with the first one. Seen more of those, and it just looks better to me.

I vote for top pic, nice color!

:iagree: #1.... it looks good!

It's funny, but before I saw the voting I actually thought #2 looked pretty good! Those bumperettes look like they might be from a 4A or 250. Rimmerbros shows the bumperette part numbers 706605 and 706606 for the GT6 MkI, and it only cross references to similar year Spitfires at least in their system.

I like number 1.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

#1 does look better, but if you want to be different go with #2.
I gues it's like BBS's on Mk1 VW Rabbits. Sure it's played out, but it just looks sooooo good.

I'd vote for number 1 as well. The bumperettes do look similar to TR4A's as Randy said.

The #1 grille at the top is original. #2 looks like an earlier Spitfire grille.

EDIT: You know, looking back at your pictures, the overriders you have look "short" and wide compared to mine. Visit the Spitfire & GT6 web site and look at their photo section. I think you'll find examples showing the front bumpers of the early GT6 and comparable period Spitfires.

I'll work on that sketch of the throttle linkage bracket soon and PM you when it's ready.

From the Edge of Reality:

Does it really truly matter?

If you put on one grill does that mean that you can never ever ever put on the other grill?

Pick the one you like, drive it in 2011 and then next winter put on the other and see what it looks like from behind the wheel.

Unless you are going the show car route it really should not matter, although my 68 has #1 and I like the look of it better.

I think #1 is a nice look, but more importantly, what color is that? I'm planning to finish my GT6 in a shade of blue like that...

I believe the bigger overriders were used to "hide" more of the hinge mechanism. both on the Spit and the GT6's. Bob

Today while I was playing with the front end, my husband made his own and already welded it. It aint pretty, but it'll do. Thanks anyway though.

#2 has already been restored to my standards. #1 came with the second hood I got, and if I dont have to make it pretty, then I wont. Plus I would have to repaint my screws black, or just get new ones. (I painted the old ones silver to match #2)

Well I think this car will mostly just be for show, due to all the work thats gone into it. (wont be trailered) HOWEVER, with a 21st century paint job, modern headliner, and other upgrades, original concourse specs is no longer a rule of mine.

It is Mazda Aurora Blue AKA Electric Blue, Code: 34J

Its kinda expensive and has a bit of a pearl to it which gives off a purple shine depending on the light and angle.

True. The bigger over riders should hide the bonnet hinges. The ones that came with your car I believe were for a GT6+.

Wouldnt surprise me, seems like everything weve had a problem with has been related to a previous owner thinking this was a MK2 or at least converting it to one. But I thought GT6+ had pointier bumper gaurds, and a rubber insert.

The ones currently installed are the TR4A (theyve been rechromed and inside someone carved "68 TR..." and the rest cant be read.) The ones in these pics both fit, and cover the hinge. The smaller one, if it werent chewed up looks great, but the bigger one seems to be what all the other MK1 GT6es have. Plus, I tried installing the larger one, and there were a lot of gaps. Maybe the smaller one is off a different vehicle, and if so, anyone have a clue?

I`d vote for the 1st. pic. It looks like "JAWS" coming at you for Lunch!!

Have Fun,

Russ
