What might be a desirable serial number be on a BE

I was kind of looking into it because I saw a few posts recently regarding the serial numbers. The two I have are 001564 and 008722. I dont think these would be anything special but I believe they started at 501. Let me know what you thinks would be a notable number would be as far as collectale numbers. This is just out of curiosity, or if this has been posted before let me know, I searched and did not see it.

The lower the number the better for some collectors. The only real plus with Bugeyes would be some more rare components (like the studded windshield frame, etc.) or just having a very early example of a classic. Otherwise (at least to me) there is nothing special about any particular serial number. That said, I personally like #21000, but maybe that's because it's my Bugeye's number!

Thanks that is what I kind of figured, there are enough around still that it wouldnt really matter, but i was just curious if there were any certain ones that would be good to get a hold. Just in case of some barn finds i plan on making soon :yesnod: its been about 4 months since someone called me with one, i am due.

also is there any good place i can find some of the history on some of these early one with the different parts etc... or just some fun facts, I have been looking around and really couldnt find much. I have a bunch of books i borrowed from my dad on sprites and bugeyes from the 60s and 70s but that is about it.

Quite a few good books out there. The best seems to be "Original Sprite and Midget" by Terry Horler. Not perfect, but goes through all the changes, and is as accurate as can be expected.

There's no direct collectibility factor, but for inherent coolness you can't beat a VIN with a 007 somewhere in it.

I had an '88 Fiero with the last 5 numbers if the VIN 13007.....I always thought the 007 was cool too.

Hey, 007 is pretty cool. My Sprite is #71428. Nothing special about that except it makes it easy to remember. 7 x 2 = 14 x 2 = 28. Also my 450SE is #000500 after all the model identifying numbers. I always liked that.

The most desireable serial number is the one on your Bugeye of course.

The most desireable VIN is the one that matches the title you have for the car. :yesnod:

The Ed Leavens mentioned in that article had a BMC dealership in London Ontario. Actually it is now run by his son, Chris, and sells VW.
A very interesting man to talk with.

Title, What are those? Just kidding, the bugeye I have has a bill of sale from 1975, this is when my dad bought the car from the original owner in CA and that is all the paperwork he got.

Thanks all for the replies, Just curious if there were any more desirable, because all bugeyes are desirable of course, than some others, but i see there isnt much to worry about.
