The quiz, I just took indicates my accent is from extreme north inland, I was born and raised in the south west, and now living in the south, I still have the same accent I started out with. go figure? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I got the same result...north inland. I have always lived on Long Island, and most people would say I have a New York accent. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Edit: If you click on all the BOTTOM answers, you come up with midland...also known as NO ACCENT. Good for radio and TV announcers.

"Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak."

Gots me pegged. Been a New Yorker all me life but grew up in Chappaqua (snoot snoot). Now residing in LI but resisting taking on the accents here.

To LI'ers a Honder is make of vehicle.

"How many winders that Honder got?"

Sounds like Tennessee to me! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Yeah, RIGHT, Baz...Center City, presumably... an' I'm from Jo'berg! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Midland, wonder where that is.

I'm from "The West", it says...

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

Quote:]"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
Well, they're close. I'm from West Virginia. The quiz could have narrowed that down by asking how I pronounce "creek" (crick) and how I pronounce washcloth (worshcloth).

"no one thinks you have an accent."

Well, you ALL have an accent! A 'Murrican one.... Except for Barry, whatever else he says. Philly! And I'm from the Bronx.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

funny inland north yet born in belfast N.I. and living in Toronto for 34 years

I wouldn't but too much faith into that survey. It told me I was from the Midland. I have one of the strongest Southern accents around. I believe yontwo is a valid word. (For those who can't read redneck that is "Do you want to".) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

Yes they do even people from CT know right away,
Yonkers, NY born. Raised in Ardsley, Scarsdale, and Carmel, NY. Escaped to Connecticut.

Quote:] You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."
Well, I've never been asked if I was from Wisconsin or Chicago. Grew up in the D.C. area (Northern Virginia) then moved to Los Angeles. I knew someone from Michigan once but that is the closest connection I can come up with. Oh, and I call 'em sodas.

O.K. Born, raised, live now in Central Arkansas and it says...Inland North accent (Like Chicago?) I've never been accused of being from there...(Maybe it's the Ya'll in my speech) Hmm, maybe I enuciate too clearly, but still order sweet tea and call people sweetie and hon....Maybe I'm Schizophrenic? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Northeast...not bad, but further north and further east...being that I'm from Sweden. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

It's in Texas, right next to Odessa! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yep; I was born there, and when my answer came back "Midland", I thought, "Dang, they're good!" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
