Re: What is Your "Holy Grail"?
I suppose a true Holy Grail car would be something that isn't merely out of reach financially, but is legendary and rumored not to exist. I mean, cars such as the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda convertible or Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic are very rare and expensive, but I could source one had I the wherewithal. Oddly, I can't really think of any sports cars that fall into the "missing, presumed nonexistent" category. All of them are old hot rods.
1.) the Big John Mazmanian Willys gasser-this car disappeared sometime in the sixties after Maz sold it. I believe a recreation was built, which gets shown all the time.
2.) the Barris Brothers Buick-George and Sam Barris' first full custom, a '41 Buick convertible, built before they moved to Los Angeles.
3.) the Dave MacDonald "00" Corvette-okay, this is a sports car. Also known as "Ol' Yeller V", this "Corvette" was built by Max Balchowsky for MacDonald. It was basically a spaceframe special with a Corvette-like body (molded from a real car) and was shortened and sectioned. Rumored to have been abandoned in a field in Hawaii.
