with Dune, so I was wondering
What is your favorite Sci Fi Movie?

In my top 10, I gotta say

Forbidden Planet
with Leslie Neilson and
Anne Francis

There are more, but lets hear what you think.

PS, yes, I do read a lot of books,
but this is not about books. :yesnod:
 
The day the earth stood still (1951)
 
I sure agree with Forbidden Planet, and The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Among others, I'd add:

Things To Come, 1936. Based on H.G.Wells 1933 book, predicting a global war beginning in 1940, and the ensuing break up of society into warring tribes.

Those are just the ones that came to mind first
 
The first Star Wars trilogy -- it came along at just the right for me (in 1977 I was 5) and that story and the toys defined my childhood.

Blade Runner
 
WAY too many to choose a favorite from! The most recent movie I've added to my extensive favorites list is Pandorum. Another recent one that was a great idea was Melancholia, but it was 95% boredom with 5% of amazing scenes. Not sure I'd recommend it.
 
The Day the Earth Stood Still, a bit preachy but well acted. Love the scene where the doctors are smoking cigarettes.

The Thing from another world, great dialog, James Arness as the monster.

Curiously, both movies were released in 1951.
 
1951 - never realized those "good ones" came out the same year.

Also 1951 - "Five". Not the greatest, but interesting for its 1951 look at a post-nuclear holocaust world.

The original War of the Worlds with Gene Barry.
 
The original "Invaders From Mars" made in the 50's. I wouldnt go near the sand pit by my house for years. When people act weird,I still check the back of the neck for the scar.
 
With all that, I have scant argument but the NEWEST faves are "Independence Day" and "Starman".


....I may demur for "Blade Runner" in a deep discussion.

...as I watched a pair of white bulldogs forrage. They were innocent but it put me in mind of the story.
