TR2/3/3A What is the purpose of the groove behind TR3A door ?

What is the purpose of the groove behind a TR3A door. I am putting on new interior panels and this groove baffles me. There are three tabs cut out (only two in the picture) which look like they fold over the groove to hold something in. I tried putting the fur flex in the groove but that doesn't work. When I put the panel behind the door on, there is a gap that seems like it needs something else to fill it in. I am working on one of those projects where I didn't take it apart. What else goes here ? 20140517_130757.jpg

That groove was originally filled with a twisted fibrous material, kind of like jute. The tabs were folded flat to retain the material. I have no idea what the purpose was. I can take a picture later today, if that will help, as I don't have the interior panels installed in my TR3.

Does this material show or is it completely covered by the interior panels. Does anyone sell this material. What do others put in when it is missing? Thanks.

I just did a search on the word "Jute" and found another thread that discusses this material at length. Thanks for the response.

The Jute held the dof leg panel screws,I belive three.I replaced mine with some poplar wood strips after painting the tub.

I agree that it was a tack strip and there were actual tacks used not screws. Replaceing it with wood sounds like a good idea.
