MGB What is the purpose of the center assembly at tranny mount?

Does anyone know the purpose of the extra pin and bushings and brackets etc. in the center of the MGB tranny mount? I have looked at this contraption multiple ways and cannot figure out why this extra assembly is needed when two substantial rubber mounts are right there? The "center contraption" on mine was not even bolted to the crossmember. Mine was definitely not right but I still can't cypher the purpose of the mount.

It might have something to do with beefing up the engine restraint rod mount, which helps keep the fan out of the radiator on a frontal mishap. PJ

"Anit-dive, anti-lift." Keeps undue stress OFF the mounts.
