valued tool in your inventory??

I have a magnet with a telescoping handle. It's long and thin so it goes into tiny spaces and saves me enormous amounts of time and energy picking up the nuts and bolts I constantly seem to drop. It fits into the smallest spaces and retrieves washers etc. that always seem to fall into those unreachable spaces.

At this point, my oxy/acetylene torch and MIG welder. They allow me to make parts I couldn’t hope to before owning them.

Someone to hold a light and to talk to.

Bruce

My pocket LED pen light and freebee Snap-On pocket screwdriver.
I'm constantly using them at work. I even grab for them at home, only to be sadly dissapointed that I don't have them.
I also have a new LED flashlight that looks just like a folding cellphone. About the same size, fits in my pocket, and is brighter than any other light I have.
I've been using that a lot too. I've had it 3 weeks and haven't had to recharge it yet!

A 3/8ths drive ratchet and socket set given to me by my uncle, who was a mechanic. I reckon I've gotten 40 years good use from it and another 10 or 20 or more are well possible. I've bought and used lots of tools since, but that and a set of combination (open and box ended) wrenches and a set of screwdrivers he gave me at the same time have a permanent place, right where they can be easily reached....

Geeze, there are sooo many! Each has a purpose BUT most Nothing else will take thier place or do the same job.
The skill to use each one with proficiency But then thats not a tool is it?
I know!
Ill just say ALL OF EM!!

A workshop manual, be it the original, Bentley or Haynes. without it, one doesn't know which other tool to pick up.
Cheers,

Without one of these, you shouldn't open the hood...

I just spent $175 for a complete factory service manual
for SWMBOs new toy, an '87 XR4Ti...

SteveL, you're a Ford Snob!!!

...not that that's a "Bad Thing" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Every car we've ever owned was preceeded by a factory manual. Including the 2.6 Capri.

I wouldn't say I'm a "snob", I just got with what has treated
me the best, and I do own an MG... Okay, it is Ford powered,
but you can't tell from the outside, I used to keep the hood
closed at the show and shines...

The Ford thing started for me in the mid '70s, I've owned
Chevys, Dodges, Buicks, Ponchos, Datsuns, Fiats, Alfas,
BMWs, VWs, Audis, and even a Series 62 Caddy.

But I'll always own a Ford...

Just as a side note, when I sell a car, which ain't often,
the new owner is given two books, the service manual, and
the receipt binder of the parts that have gone into it from
when I owned the car...

Service manuals stay with me! I never know when I'll be asked to work on one again. They become part of my perminant library.
FSMs definatly an extremely valuable tool.

Yup. I'm starin' at my "Jaguar MK 2 Models, 2.4, 3.4, 3.8 Litre" FSM as I type this! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

The most valuable, is my SU toolkit, but it's also my most hated, because when I've got that toolkit out, I have problems. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif
My favourite is a digital camera, I've learned to never take anything off a car without a picture of how it should look in the 'before' state.

That's as long as it was on correctly in the first place Barry and not screwed up by the PO

That's where the REST of us take pix of the parts in question as example of the correct method for install! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

True... and I've noticed that the quality of the photo is inversely related to the importance of the information... the more critical the need the further the item is and less detail is avialable, or the poorer the focus, and the more likely it is that what you want is only partly seen, if at all...

Don't ask how I know.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif
