What British Car show would you drive 1000+ miles/
many days for?
I'm hoping to get the '60 Ford Anglia done by 2010-
- (50 years),& would like to think that I could make any
show in the US.At least that's the plan.
What shows are worth "going out of the way" for?

I drove to Elkhart Lake WI. (Road America) for the 50 yr. Elva reunion...
(580 miles one way)

Yea I really like the car and all but...

No way am I ever doing that again :eeek: , and that was under 600 miles.

I think I have permanent PTSD after that one.

All things considered...
GO FOR IT!
(Just let us know your route so we can keep an eye on you)

I dunno. I drove 900ish miles (I put over 2000 on the car) in the MGB to a small show in northern Virginia a few years ago - just "because".

That may have been the "Hunt Country Classic" show at Willoughby Farm, and it's a very good one. BTW, it's being held Sunday, Oct. 12, here's the link: www.mgcarclub.com I'll be there again this year. It's generally folks from northern VA, DC and the MD/Del. area.

I dunno. I like going to the regional car shows. They're populated by local guys - folks I know from all the years of playing and wrenching these cars. Some of them I've seen at shows for over 30+ years. Kinda like a reunion of sorts. And, these guys really know their British cars. I talk until my throat gets sore sometimes!

I'd rather go to, say, the Brown's Island show in Richmond (70 miles ea. way) or the Shenandoah Valley Brit Car Club show in Waynesboro (35 mi. ea. way) than a California Concours show! Local people, local cars, my friends and peers among them.

It's the cars, but even more so for me, it's the guys who love 'em and their stories about the cars!

Been there...done that....several times. I've driven from the midwest to Vancouver, BC; to Oympia, WA; to North Lake Tahoe; to Sebring, FL; to the east coast (albeit about 800 miles one way); down to Dallas and up to Canada.

The road trip is the highlight of the trip; the car show (and getting to meet up with friends old and new) is only the goal.

I've seen parts of North America that I would have NEVER visited had it not been for my MG.

First long drive for me in my 59 TR3 was back to Franklin OH south of Dayton. So my uncle who gave me the car could see it back on the road. Around 800 miles one way. When the VTR was in Red Wing drove there. About 900 miles one way.

Don't even let Don E. into this conversation. He'll put us all to shame.

I'm praying for the opportunity of this type of passage....
(Day dreaming as follows...) California to New York and back. Hmmm,
think I need a car that might do it, first; second, I'd need to retire.

Let's see, is there a time of year that would allow such a trek?

I drove about 1300-1400 round trip recently to the 50th Spridget show out at Lake of the Ozarks, MO.

Dang!

My car is...

Hot, noisy, twitchy, bumpy & stinks.

One hour in it and I'm physically/mentally exhausted.

The Midget anniversary is coming up. Been pondering about that one. The Ozarks was a great trip. 3077 miles round trip for all the right reasons.

Re: What is the Car Show You'd Dive 1000+ Miles Fo

I drive 1000-3000 miles every year (round trip) to attend GoF West. There are no other shows I drive that kind of distance to although I drive those kinds of distance while touring. I also drive several hundred miles on smaller trips for club gatherings.

Yup, it was. That's my home turf. Won first place for whatever category I was in, and they gave me a special prize for driving the farthest. I took two full days to go up, taking the long way through the valley then Skyline Drive to 211.

Does the Great American Race count as a car show? A mobile one? Is it still being run? I want/ed to do that one. I'd drive 1000 miles+ to a car show with great people, fun cars and nice weather!

I've met Don at a few shows, he's certainly the champion at attending shows near and far (car is quite beautifull too!)

I've also caught up to him on the highwway, and can attest to the fact that he really drives his car as it was meant to be driven .......

As for me , the shows that I will definately have to attend would have to be Stowe VT (maybe 350kms from home), perhaps the Toronto Triumph meet (600KM'S) and without a doubt, one day I'd love to hang at the TRF summer party! (maybe what 800km's??)

While not completely "british" another event on the bucket list would be Carisle ......

Re: What is the Car Show You'd Dive 1000+ Miles Fo

Nothing worth coming to Calgary for (at least for car shows), lots of great scenery up though to take in... At least we have one thing going for us up here...
