What is the alloy of steel used in the A-H body?

I've read in some of the old books that it was called "birmabright" or something like that.

I've had the aluminum shrouds (fr & rr) TIG welded by a guy in Carencro, Louisiana, and he didn't have any trouble with whatever alloy rod he was using. I'll tell you this, he didn't go out and buy anything special, and the coloring afterwards, was a dead-nuts match.

Would you believe rust

Somewhere, I missed the "steel" part of the original question...

I don't know, but E70s filler works just fine (MIG or TIG).
