Ran across this old photo and wondered what my dad was driving. Any ideas?

It looks very similar to about a 1938-39 Chevy coupe.
When I was young (yes I really was young once) there was a 39 Chevy sedan in our driveway. The louvers on the hood, the taillights, and the grill are all very close.
Try a google search on those years to see if this helps

Nice car, great picture!

Dave :savewave:

Dave and Jay, thanks much. That might be enough to get my mom's memory going.
I suspect he bought it used in San Diego after the war and drove it back to Iowa. First car I remember when 5 was his new 57 Ford w/ T Bird engine that leaked more than a LBC. Then used 60 Chevy convertible sold 2 months before my license, darn, for used 65 Corvair which I loved and learned how to drive sideways in the snow. Made me a better driver today even though I still go sideways on occasion. Gonna snow soon. :thankyousign:

39 Chevy would have been my vote too.

Being British, in Britain for the first 50 years, I remember all our cars being British right up until I started driving, and even beyond. My Dad favoured Ford when he had the choice. The last one he bought new was a 1967 Cortina 1500 Super. The last car he bought at all was a 1990 Ford Sierra 2.0GL, which was 11 years old.

When I was at art college, one of my fellow students had a 60 Chevy Sport Sedan, at 18!

Judging from the horazontal grill and the side louvers and the fact the head lights are molded some what to the grill I would guess it would be a 39 Chevy. The 38 still had alongated bucket headlights.
