Hey, watch it! I carried the darned thing for years. It's NOT a "Dictaphone" - that was a competitor.
Yes, it's a dictating machine. It has a magnetic belt about 2 inches wide inside in a single loop. You recorded "dictation" and then gave the belt to a "secretary" to transcribe.
Those were the days...
