hello all..on a 1275 eng attached to the timing cover is a small canister near lower rad hose, it has a pipe for a hose pointed up and nothing's hooked up to it. can't find it in the haynes manual..thanks again

Mine attaches to a "Y" that attaches to the dual carbs to provide vacuum to lift the SU Pistons.

Can't remeber the name but it's for crankcase ventilation, depends what year, Y pipe as mentioned above or on mine (1967) it goes to the "pancake" PCV valve & then from the PCV to a port on the intake.
What year is yours ?

Yep, crankcase breather. I can tell you what I've seen a few times, I just finished a 1275 that I built for a guy who bought a bugwye for restoration that already had this 1275 in it, problem was that for some odd reason had retianed the 948 timing cover and now the engine had no crankcase breathing, needless to say I swithced to breather type 175 timing cover.

i have no idea what yr the eng is but i think i better find out.. it has a breather hose from the valve cover to the front air cleaner and the only vac hose on this setup is from the front carb to the dist advance.. it has a rear main leak and now i'm wondering if it's breathing good enough.. this canister looks like it would just act as a vacuum tank with only one hose connection. i was hoping vacuum pulling from the air cleaner to the valve cover should be enough but i'm not sure if it's supposed to have some other kind of breather and this tank should be hooked up.

just looking thru ebay and there's a 60 and from what i can tell the breather setup looks the same..air cleaners different but plumbing's the same..maybe the timing cover's from an earlier one..
