What is a Lucas Smoke Gage?

jlaird,

The Smiths clock photo was spritenut's. He also has one of the three prototype Lucas smoke gauges. I have the second prototype. The third is still in it's box awaiting installation by it's owner. The smoke gauge simply hooks into the power side of the electrical circuit and monitors it's smoke content. It only is active when it's button is pushed and held for a few seconds. If the gauge fills with smoke your system is okay. Works in either positive or negative ground systems. As far as we know only 3 prototypes were constructed so finding another is highly unlikely. On the other hand Smith clocks are quite common. I believe there is one on ebay right now. Don't know if the auction is still going or closed.

In this thread there is a source for new smith clocks. Not a problem.

This smoke thing is really intresting. First I had ever heard of it. Braging rights for sure. Grats on your "lucky" find.

Another question Biff.

There must be an intresting story that goes along with these SMOKE detectors.

How did you guys come by them, did you find em all together or one at a time and if so how did you find each other?

Again I must admit I find this item really intrigueing.

The url on smoke replenishment is interesting. This appears to be the standard "heavy" smoke. I'd really like to have a LBC compatible "light" smoke. I know its only sprung weight, but every little bit helps.
