What happened to the internet "white pages"?

Not to long ago, you could go to the "white pages". Plug in someone's name and get a phone # or address in short order.

now , your quest is diverted to somewhere else & for a mere $10 bucks, you can find out what felonies were committed, where they spent time in the slammer & how many times they've been divorced......but finding a phone # has become a challenge.
 
They figured out how to monetize their website. Happened some time ago. Makes it really hard. I know folks who have paid the fee, and had no data on the party for which they are searching.....even though it claims it has searched 10 billion data bases and has the premium information you are seeking.
 
Try manta.com. Put in person's name and address and click on phone number. Works most of the time presuming it is a landline.
 
I said years ago that some day you will pay for what's now free. The day is coming when you will have to pay to use the Internet.
