Is to be able to click on 2 locations and be able to tell driving time and distance between points
 
You can do it now... just right click from point A and you can choose "directions to here" or "directions from here" then go to the second location (point B) and right click and choose "to here" or "from here" and its done!

That outlines a route but tells nothing about mileage or driving time.

For that you need to switch to Google Maps.

The only advantage I see to using Google Earth for route planning is that it provides the opportunity to actually examine intersections, interchanges and destinations visually.
 
It does give you mileage and driving times, with three options. Look to the left of the map. You can also see a street view by pulling the little yellow man off the zoom bar. When you do that, the streets that turn blue are ones that have a 360 degree street view.View attachment 33083
 
Right clicking point A and point B does show mileage, route, and driving times as Greg says.......

Ah.
What they really need is more consistent names of waterways (not one specific "zoom" and then only if you follow it to the next county) and the actual name of the owner of the railroad tracks shown.
 
I second the need to have rail lines labeled.
