What Gauge Wire ?

I'm not sure what the original was, the British don't size wire by "gauge". However, 16 AWG will do fine for a replacement.

I can never remember who is doing concours restoration and who just wants to drive... but in my opinion the wire was a sort of brick red, not a bright red -- if it matters and if you can find it. I salvaged some from the positive lead on an ancient Simpson multimeter that looked just right.

Makes sense to me. Both the original wire and the old Simpson used natural rubber insulation, instead of PVC; and they both had that funny brick color.
