What Gasket Sealer to Use on Engine Parts?

Here's a question. What is a good gasket sealer to use for the various lower engine gaskets I will be replacing because of my Crankshaft re-grind. The Pan, Timing cover, front engine plate, Rear seal housing, water pump to cyl. head...etc. I generally love gray threebond, but I use that on aluminum mainly. The engine has some pliable black rubber like sealant that seemed to work well. Whats everyone using?

Permatex has a web site that details(okay brags) the various sealants from them.
 
Permatex #2 and #3H depending on application.
 
Yeah, many are not fans of shellac, and I understand why. PITA to clean if something needs to be replaced, but none of my motors ever leak.
 
That's because what we call shellac today is in reality a devil's brew. If we used REAL shellac, I prefer a medium blonde with just a touch of red aniline dye, we could easily remove it with a dab of denatured alcohol. Of course, that's the problem we would have with REAL shellac...it's not very durable, especially under heat.

Sorry...ventured over into my woodworking mindset...

IMHO & experience, Hylomar is the <span style="color: #3333FF"> </span> <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">ONLY</span></span></span> thing to use.

Rolls-Royce is the license owner. For a good number of years, Permatex <span style="font-weight: bold">HAD</span> it but 4 - 5 years ago when they where sold, lost the "rights" and the only place in US to get it was Wurth in an 80 ml tube at IIRC $18.00 per.

I checked Permatex today and they have it "recently" ("new") back in 1.2 oz tubes. One tube "might" do a LBC 4 cyl. but I would want 2nd On-Hand!!

New @ Permatex !!!
