I think this is an Osprey eating a fish. Snapped this last year at Point Loma near San Diego. This fellow was sitting up on a street light eating some sort of fish with a long, pointy snout.

Anyone know what kind of fish is being had for dinner?

Houndfish or needlefish. Not the best view to tell for sure, but the apparent width of the bill seems like a houndfish.

Looking it up based on your suggestion, I think hound fish/ California Needle fish (which apparently is quite common in the waters around San Diego when this was shot).
