Not my car, but I have similar rims for the TR4a

The tire size on the rims is D70-14, which I believe is D70-14 in modern size equivalent to 205/70R-14 or 195/70R-14 sized?
 
Look good to me. Appliance rims? Wolfrace in the UK I think had something similar.

Personally, I am not a big fan of them. One of our local 6 owners have them on his car. They just don't do much for me...

I'm partial to vintage alloys just because I enjoy a change from the ubiquitous current styles usually seen; however, are those truly magnesium? Seems there can be some issues with aged mag wheels.
 
Hi guys - not sure if the are just really dirty aluminum or in fact magnesium. I've heard that magnesium will turn really dark if not polished, or that it reacts to vinegar. Another other ideas short of seeing how they burn? Grin.

Not a fan of those wheels. Do you really want 14" wheels. 14's are getting hard to find as well as a smaller tire. They belong on 60's vintage Mustang.

I have always had a fondness for that design. A shame they are not 15', but on a four, they look great.

To be honest, the reason I did not buy a set of the usual alloy wheels available for my 6 is I am not fond of their design. Were I inclined to replace the steal wheels, a nice set of wires would be my choice.
 
Do 14's clear the brake calipers on a TR? I thought there might be a problem there, not so?

Randy - these came off a TR4a so they fit a stock 4a. Excellent question however, and as both of mine have Toyota calipers worth checking before getting too excited.
 
Are you sure those aren't 15" wheels in the picture??? Aren't 14'' wheels going to look too small in the whell well of a 4A? I have a set of those "slot" wheels on my TR3.
 
Hi Karl - the car in the first picture isn't mine, but the rim detail is of the rims I have. They didn't look too small on the TR4a they were removed from, but what do I know...
 
I like the look. The match the vintage perfectly. Just with any old / used rim, inspect them very carefully for cracks, or any other damage. You might want to get a magnaflux kit. Basically you coat the wheels with a red fluid and wipe it off. Then spray with a white powder. Any cracks will retain the red stain and become visible on the red powder.
 
Magnaflux might be the brand but what you are talking about is a dye penentrent test and it's not as simple as you've stated. Done wrong you can get a lot of false positives. You must follow the instructions very closely. Cleaning the dye off is not easy either and if done wrong you can overlook a positive result. Spraying too thick a coating of the white powder will mask a crack. It's a good non-destructive test if done correctly. I'd recomend having it done by a professional lab if that's the way you want to go. Doing it yourself without the proper training is wasting your time. Once the test is complete you still have to understand what the results are telling you.

But back on topic, those rims were all the rage in the late 60's/early 70's - those and Cragars. I still like 'em!
 
Yes they were. I think the z-car folks liked them a lot. Perhaps where the 14" wheels came from. Then again those years are now just memory fog, or perhaps I was in a fog back then.

It does not matter, still a good looking set of wheels.
 
They look awesome! I tried to find a set for my TR250 years ago. I missed out on a set of American Racing set just like those on E-bay and was really bummed.
 
Thanks guys - if nothing else we've established there is a market for them. Except maybe for Marv!

I am tempted to give them a go.
