What Do You Carry for Parts and Spares?

12ga and 50 rounds...
 
I've found it's a good when you put new parts on your car-
(plugs,belts,hoses,etc.,it's a good idea to put the old parts
in a soft bag,& keep it in the trunk.

I always try to keep a complete distributor and an electric fuel pump in the trunk along with a small tool kit.

I went to Lowe's today and bought a Task Force automotive tool kit in a zippered pack. It's pretty complete to start with and only $20. I came home and shoved a whole bunch of stuff from this thread into an MG bag that I bought on ebay. I won't have to worry about it getting ripped off, 'cause I didn't pay a ton o' cash for it. I threw it in the trunk next to BillM and now I'm ready to go.

No experence w/ them, better test 'em first. Seen fragile as glass sockets before. Somethin' you might not want to find out on the road.

Anyone notice no hammer in that kit or am I just blind?

Army surplus stores have zipper top canvas tool bags w/ hard bottoms for about $13. Been thinking about going that route. Gotta PINK tackle box right now and it just doesn't feel right, plus it's crappy. If you get one of those fly-by-night tool sales in your area (Chuch Homier), you can get a decent wrench roll for cheap, don't forget to double up so ya can hold the back side. I need to put my kit back in and a tire plug set is nevr a bad idea. Never have understood the tire inflation kit that used a spark plug hole for an air source. It'd make the 12ga look like a pop gun.
 
A few things I have in the trunk that (I don't think) have been mentioned yet:
a multimeter and a timing light.
 
Whatever happened to the real "Army Surplus" stores?
Anyone in the NW remember "GI Joes"?

Thay have become "outfitters". Only way to find the good stuf is online. Centerfiresystems.com and Aimsurplus.com. Centerfire is kinda shady. Sportmans Guide has some stuff from time to time. Yeah, it aint tlike it use to be. I use to love our local surplus store as a kid. (still do.) Can't get nothin' like ya used to. They do have nice tool bags though.

GI Joe's went under. They were more of a sporting goods store. I scored on some great stuff at their "going out of business" sale. We still have some "authentic" surplus stores around....Ed's in Lynnwood and another in Woodinville (name escapes me). I agree with Kelly's guy.... I love to walk the isles.
 
I, like Bill M. carry a complete dizzy, with points already gapped. I've put a mark on it and on the block so I can do a quick swap and have the timing be withing a couple of degrees. Plugs, plug wires, and a brand new crank pulley round out the spares.
 
What? GI Joe's out of business? When did that happen?
We used to go there while attending the British Field Meet
in Portland,& when I used to race at PIR.
I remember the original store,when they carried war
surplus stuff.

I picked up a nice small canvas zipper bag at Harbor Freight, I keep a complete halfway decent socket set and most of the other mentioned items in there. Stows nicely about a foot long.

Here are some pics of my bag, as mentioned it is canvas and nylon, heavy zipper about 12" long by 9" wide. I only paid $10 or $12.00 for it. I like it because it is soft sidded and fits in the corner.
