What can you buy for $4.99?

I was stressing trying to find an important part for my engine rebuild. The Tecalemit oil filter head that came with my car had be butchered in an effort to make it work. It was leaking, the oil pressure fitting for it was stripped, the pressure regulator was stripped and he had plugged up the oil pressure passage channel with some type of gook. In addition, it had so much blue gasket sealer in it that I knew when I cleaned it that it would not only leak, but most likely squirt oil everywhere.

I looked everywhere for one but had zero luck. One day while browsing on Ebay I found a complete Purolator filter head listed not under "TR4" or "Triumph", but "Purolator". The picture of it was terrible and it looked like it was dug out of a hole somewhere. Remarkably, not one person bid on it and I ended up buying it for $4.99 plus shipping.

Sure enough, it looked as though mud dobber wasps had made a nest in it, but after I cleaned it, it turned out to be in outstanding condition. I love ebay!

Take a look...

Did it come with the spin-on adaptor?? That's worth almost $40 by itself!

Great find! Yep I have had quite a bit of luck finding that odd part or two. Very astute of you to find it under Purolator. Going out of the box, so to speak, quite often allows you to snap up the bargains.

Great job, Tinkerman

It did not come with the spin on adapter, but it did come complete with the canister and an ancient paper filter. It was interesting because it still had some of the original paint on the canister which was a greenish-blue (more green then blue) metallic looking paint. The internals are in great condition and had absolutely no debris and very little wear. I've ordered new springs, balls and washers just in case.

It's great to find parts you need that are not bid on because of how they're listed.

I got a correct heater fan rheostat for the TR3A because it was on eBay as a Rolls Royce part (which presumably it was). Cost next to nothing. Apparently Roller owners don't troll eBay.
