Spitfire What are these on my '73 Spitfire?

Around the back of the cockpit, near where the snaps are that the top snaps onto, there are 3 captive nuts, held in small metal "cages",
They're spaced around the rear. I'm guessing they're there for a hardtop to screw into it, but right now they just vibrate and buzz incredibly loud when I drive over 50 mph.

Anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking of putting some caulk into the "cages" to hold the nuts in place. I put a screw into it, but that
didn't stop the buzzing.

Thanks,

I'm going on memory here, but I believe there usually are four such "captive" nuts. Two hold the rear retaining plate for the convertible top; the top is held to that in part by the three center snaps. If your top snaps directly to the body all the way across there and there is no retaining plate under that part of the top, then someone has modified your car.

Anyway, the other two captive nuts ARE in fact for the hardtop. If they are buzzing away, I'm sure a small dab of caulk or silicone sealant or the like will silence them!

Thanks for the information. Hello Caulk....
