TR6 What are these clips for?

Friend of mine has this 71 TR6 and as you can see in the pic there are 3 metal clips pinch welded on the flat part under the grill. He was hoping that I could tell him what they are for. Don't think I've ever seen them before.

They allow a black finishing piece to be installed.... will take a pic of mine

Here's the Moss part number: 854-205. It's called a "Finisher"
 
I just discarded my old rusted one and replaced it with the Moss part. I cleaned all the rust from the clips and repainted the surrounding surfaces. However, first I trial fit the finisher. It did not come close to fitting. I had to close down and reshape the entire lip on the new part. It also had very bad burrs on the edge that would have cause scratches and rust soon. I spent an hour on a $25 part that was poorly made. So if you buy it, be prepared to fix it first. I could tell it was going to be a problem as soon as I compared it to the original. If the original had not had holes and deep pits in it, I would have restored it instead.
 
I just went out and unburied my 69 TR6 which needs restored and I never noticed it before. However mine is painted the body color. Is that correct for the year?

Not so much trying to slag Moss as for the most part they are a good supplier, but I have generally (but not always) found that Roadster does a better job on reproduction parts such as the finisher. Now I'm not going to sit here and say that it was so easy the the finisher installed itself, but the one I got from Roadster went on, no having to deburr, no need to do any reshaping, just put it on and then install the grill.

Got_All_4, as far as I know the finishers were black from day one. The windscreen frames were body colored on the 1969 cars but that is only thing I can think of that in body color instead of being black like on all other years. Rear panels varied by market, some were black, some were body colored, but again that was a function of the market in which they were sold, not the model year.
