I was poking around under the bonnet today, saw something I've never seen before. The brass knurled knob into the side of the block, can someone enlighten me as to what the heck that is?

That is a really cool piece! I assume that you have to source your own 'bullet' or ball bearing(?). Doug
 
+1 for an adjustable oil pressure relief valve.

The adjustable kits can work with either the ball bearing or the standard relief valve. The standard valve can typically use a standard spring while the ball bearing requires a spring with a loop or more cut off. It is my understanding that a lot of people have stopped using the ball bearing conversion.
