What am I doing wrong?

Started placing the rear end assembly back on the Whitephrog this past weekend. My goal was (notice the past tense) to get her on her on four feet by the end of day yesterday. Didn't happen. Try as I did there was always one set of holes that wouldn't line up. If I got the springs hooked up one of the radius arm holes would be out of alignment. If I got the bolts through the radius arms, one of the springs wouldn't line up.

Is there a trick to this? What am I doing wrong?

I remember wrestling with it a bit, but it all went together after some lovin with a big hammer.

Are all the components loose? If all the parts are not snugged tight to each other, you might get the play you need to get everything in position and then tighten everything down.

I agree with Peter plus you are not really suppose to tighten it up until it has a little weight on it.

Okay, so I loosened everything and still no success. Tried pushing, pulling, raising and lowering but still could get the passenger side springs to align with the bracket.

Then the brainstorm. I found a buggered up bolt the same size, cut off the head and tapered the threaded end making an alignment tool. I was able to get this bolt through from the backside getting everything lined up well. Then from the underside I aligned the correct bolt and, with one mighty blow with a hammer, I knocked the sacrifical bolt out and the correct bolt in place.

Got every thing tightened up ready for her to be on her own feet again!!

Once you got everything in place and tightened down, did you check it for range of motion to make sure nothing is unexpectedly binding? Would hate for you to get so close and then have something snap or worse. Ounce of prevention, pound of cure and all that..... Congrats on getting it all in place though!!

Nice going. That's something I'll try to remember when I'm struggling with lining up parts.

I've been told to be careful about tightening up the radius arm connections too tightly with the suspension off the ground. The rubber in the bushings could shear when the suspension settles into it's normal position.
