Here is where my day started and ended. I'm greasy from arse to elbows but smiling from ear to ear.

So, you gonna spray that engine compartment while you have it empty?

As I run from my computer - no. I really want to but time is limited and I want to get her running. The car was originally white and is currently red - as you can plainly see. The rockers and doglegs need replacing and I might spring for a paint job but am undecided on a color. So I left it. I'm going to clean it up a whole bunch more. I really wanted this car for a 24/7 driver that I would not mind taking out all 4 seasons.

Ah impatient grasshopper, you'll be sorry. But as explained here before liberal use of the plastic shopping bags will protect from overspray, or "late spray" as some have coined it. Power plant is much prettier though, nice work!

Ya know, after today, I'd pull the motor in & out without a worry over 7 over if I had to. It only took about an hour to get out. What took the most time is all the other crap that goes along with cleaning stuff up. If I do decide to paint it than I'm gonna pull it again and do it right. I put in a new clutch, throw out bearing and pressure plate whill it was out. My Peco Header & exhaust arrived today so another day of pieces parts and I should be up & running. Another day for brakes and I should be driving.

I guess I should just spray it Red temporarily or black.

BLACK???!!!

You will never regret any time you spend cleaning and detailing your engine compartment. It looks pretty clean now, a little tape to cover things and paint isn't something you would regret. On the other hand, if black is the color you are thinking about, I'd wait until you redo the car.

Yeah Black....it hides the oil drips better /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

How do you spell "sacrilige"?

One of the things I dislike about my Midget is the black engine bay, it makes me feel that I am hiding something.
I went through it with the BGT too, and painted that factory colour engine in-situ. It was hard, but well worth it looks wise.
Go red Vince!

Ok I know it isn't the best, but I had no intentions of repainting the Midget until I got it running. Had the motor out and needed to clean up the engine bay so it would look nice. I chose to paint my bay black because I couldn't find a matching red at that time (since then found the guy who can get my color) and black was better than scratched and beat up looking. I kinda like it. At least it looks clean. T:smile:

Oh for crying out loud, fix the drips.

I was waiting for that. I would not paint it black. I have the formula for the Red here at work and I think I'll mix up a small batch and do it. If & when I redo the car, I'll change the color & do it right. I'm going to get her running and work out all the bugs. Then a quick shot and she'll look fine.

Excuse me...no drips here! My midget only needs paint. I reallly wish I had found you guys before I started the rebuild....I thought for some reaosn paint was last. Oops! Now the car runs smooth and true but needs to be painted. I am going to drive it, I am not taking apart again, I bought it to DRIVE and that's what I'm going to do. Black engine bay and all!!!!

Somewhere I learned to get it mechanically sound, make sure it fit to drive. Then take it apart and put it back together. I guess its to each his own. Some days I wanna rip it apart and some days I wanna drive it and then save some cash to get her done right. My intention was to get it not for restoring and for driving but that's still not a reason not to do it right. I just got back in from the garage and I keep flipping a coin on the subject. I betta ya sometime over the winter the engine bay's getting a respray.

What the %$#@, you mean you can fix the drips? Well, I'll be dipped. I will definitely have to try that out this winter.

My side covers and valve cover leaked but I am replacing both. There was way too much oil all over that engine bay. The pan gasket seemed fine. I hope that when I get it running I don't have any more.
